Oracle reports errors after linking Veritas ODM library (VRTSodm)

In Oracle 10g or 11g when using the Veritas ODM Library, an error is encountered in the engine_A.log when Oracle Agent attempts to online the Oracle database:

At the same time an error similar to the following is logged into the alert.log on database startup:

Issue/Introduction

Oracle complains of an incorrect 'libodm' library even after linking to the Veritas ODM library correctly. This problem is known to occur on Oracle Enterprise Edition of Oracle 10g or Oracle 11g on any Oracle supported platform.
