Resolution

EFI labelled disks require an entry in the device directories ( /dev/(r)dsk)  with the "whole disk" (wd) notation for proper functioning with Volume Manager(VxVM) and Dynamic Multipathing (DMP) .

Absence of these entries cause a variety of problems including devices listed in error state in the vxdisk list command output and DMP disabling the path when Solaris MPxIO Multi-pathing driver is enabled.

Configurations without MPxIO also have exhibited the problem wherein the sd/ssd driver fails to create the "wd" entry for EFI labelled devices and this issue is also being investigated by Sun.

To confirm if MPxIO is disabled, type:

# stmsboot -L
stmsboot: MPXIO disabled

Customers are encouraged to contact Sun to report the problem and request assistance from Sun Support for trouble-shooting and identifying workarounds and/or fixes.

A similar issue exists in configurations involving EMC Powerpath and EFI disks - where the requisite device entry with the "wd" notation is not created. Refer to  EMC Primus document 145057 for additional details
