Introduction:

Due to a defect of HDLM for HP-UX, a system panic occurs when a directory or a file on VxFS file system is accessed in an environment in which the file system is configured directly on an HDLM device without using LVM. The following message is displayed on the console:

panic: post_hndlr(): Unresolved kernel interruption

How to Determine if Affected:

Customers using Veritas File System with Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager (HDLM) 6.1.0-00 for HP-UX 11i v1 and 11i v2 without Logical Volume Manager (LVM) are affected.

Workaround:

The problem can be avoided by creating a volume group specifying an HDLM device as a physical volume of LVM and configuring VxFS on a logical volume of the created volume group.

Formal Resolution:

Contact Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) to upgrade HDLM for HP-UX to version 6.1.0-01.

Best Practices:

Veritas strongly recommends the following best practices:
1. Always perform a full backup prior to and after any changes to your environment.
2. Always make sure that your environment is running the latest version and patch level.
3. Perform periodic "test" restores.
