Error Message

No error code is indicated.

The 'vxdisk list'  output will be similar to the following example:

# vxdisk listDEVICE       TYPE            DISK         GROUP        STATUSdisk_0       auto:sliced     -            -            onlinedisk_1       auto:none       -            -            online invalidemc_0_0 auto:sliced     -            -            onlineemc0_1    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thinemc0_2    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thinemc0_3    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thin

The expected output would be similar to:

# vxdisk listDEVICE       TYPE            DISK         GROUP        STATUSdisk_0       auto:sliced     -            -            onlinedisk_1       auto:none       -            -            online invalidemc_0_0 auto:sliced     -            -            onlineemc0_1    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thinrclmemc0_2    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thinrclmemc0_3    auto:cdsdisk    -            -            online thinrclm

Cause

There is a known incident (2147922) for the Array Support Library used with EMC VMax where LUNs are not indicated as 'thinrclm'. This is fixed in Storage Foundation 5.1SP1 and later.

The VMax storage array code may not be at the required level to display "thinrclm" LUNs.

Resolution

To correctly see LUNs as "thinrclm", and not as "thin" the following conditions must be met:

1) Storage Foundation / Volume Manager 5.1 SP1 must be installed.

2) The VMax storage array code must be at code level 5875 or later to properly indicate "thinrclm" LUNs.

Resolve the issue by meeting the above requirements.

Applies To

Linux RHEL5

Storage Foundation 5.1

Volume Manager 5.1
