Error Message

Invalid file system control data detected

sh: /var/VRTSvcs/lock/csgnicentstat: cannot create

The error was reported into Cluster Server's engine log upon every monitor

Cause

The error seems to relate to possible corruption in the /var filesystem. At the time, no files could be written into the /var/VRTSvcs/lock directory. The filesystems concerned was of JFS2 type.

Resolution

A suggestion was made to reboot the system since /var was impacted. Upon boot, the errors weren't seen, and there was no issue in writing to /var/VRTSvcs/lock.

Applies To

6.1TL5 AIX

5.1RP1 VCS

Issue/Introduction

The monitor routine was continually reporting "Invalid file system control data detected" on NIC resources. The problem appears cosmetic in that no obvious failure was seen at the time.
