Error Message

 Getting "java.lang.ClassFormatError: Illegal exception Table range in class file vrts/vxvm/ce/gui/objview/VMDiskRegionBox" within the VEA console.

Causes:

1. Exception is thrown when the JVM attempts to read a class file and the file could be either corrupted or uninterrupted as a class file.

2. If Clearing the cache does not affect this issue positively this could also be as a result of additional corruption to the  VxVmCe.jar file located at “%vmpath%\Extensions”.

 A repair of the Storage foundation for Windows componets will not replace the VxVmCe.jar File:

MSI Repair will install a file only if the file is missing from the system, if a file is already present on the system in this case repair will not reinstall it even if the file is corrupted or of a lower version. This is how MSI (Microsoft windows installer) works, it tracks health of a component by checking the presence of file or dir (also known as key file or key path), if a file is missing or a path is broken, installer will restore the file or folder during the repair however if file or folder is present (not in the good format or version) installer will not consider file\folde for repair. To get the correct file back on the system, The file will first need to be deleted manually followed by running the installer in repair mode, this should reinstall the file back on the system.

 Stop the following services:

 Veritas Plug-in Host Service

Veritas Private Branch Exchange

Veritas Action Agent

Veritas Enterprise Administrator Service

Veritas GridNode

Veritas Scheduler Service

Veritas Storage Agent

Veritas Storage Foundation Messaging Service

Stop the following process:

VxVDS.exe

Renam the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Security\Authentication\systemprofile

Delete the following files:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Veritas\VRTSbus\cedownloads\*.*

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Veritas\VRTSbus\Temp\extensions\*.*

Replace the following file with one from a working node of the same SFW version:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas Volume Manager 5.1\Extensions\VxVmCE.jar

Restart the following services:

Veritas Plug-in Host Service

Veritas Private Branch Exchange

Veritas Action Agent

Veritas Enterprise Administrator Service

Veritas GridNode

Veritas Scheduler Service

Veritas Storage Agent

Veritas Storage Foundation Messaging Service
