Cause

This problem is still under investigation by Backline and Engineering.  It is not clear whether this is a SLES 10 size limit or a VxVM for Linux size limit.

Resolution

Once you have completed recovery of VxVM volume and VxFS file system  from "failed was" deviced,  we recommend you proceed populate the disk group with with multiple disk group LUNs with sizes less than 1 terabyte and to take advantage of VxVM to aggregate blocks from the disk group disks/LUNs for expansion of the file system beyond 13 terabytes rather than DLE expansion.

Issue/Introduction

NetBackup appliance PureDisk required data space expansion for file system /Storage/data. A single LUN was expanded at the array from 13 terabytes to 17 terabytes  which requires VxVM "vxdisk-resize" command (Dynamic LUN Expansion (DLE)) before attempting VxVM volume-file system "vxresize" command.  DLE operation failed reulsting in command hang;  vxconfigd stopped; LUN changed from sliced to simple; Linux sdb LUN became "failed was" for the disk group.
