Error Message

Error V-76-58645-181: Disk sector size is not supported by Volume Manager

Cause

Vendors are recommending the use of 4K (4096) sector size as the low level format on Fusion IO drives. This is recommended to increase performance and reduce memory strain on their drivers.

This causes issues in SFW because SFW only supports disk devices with a sector size of 512 bytes.

Resolution

Use vendor provided software, like HP IO Accelerator Management Tool, to perform a low level format on the drives, using a sector size of 512 bytes. This cannot be done from within SFW/VEA.

Support for other sector sizes is being considered for a future release.

Applies To

Storage Foundation for Windows 6.0.1

Windows Server 2008 x64

Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
