Description

Error Message

Cause

In the Storage Foundation for Windows (SFW) and Storage Foundation for Windows HA (SFW-HA) 6.x products, Microsoft's online volume shrink operation is utilized which is performed using Microsoft's Virtual Disk Service (VDS). If a volume is created outside of SFW (through Logicial Disk Manager or Diskpart), VEA must refresh its information in order for the new volume object to be known to the Veritas VDS provider. If a user attempts to shrink a volume prior to the refresh, the error 'Failed to get VDS volume object' is reported.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform one of the following:

1. From within the VEA console, select the 'Actions' dropdown menu and choose 'Refresh'

2. From a command prompt, run: vxassist refresh

Once the operation completes, attempts to shrink the volume should now be successful.

Issue/Introduction
