VxVM 5.0 - Problem during IBM SANVC node addition and removal

Error Message

Application and Veritas File System may experience I/O error during IBM SANVC node addition and removal. 

In the /etc/vx/dmpevents.log, I/O errors are reported on all the paths of a LUN including those paths that are not affected by the SANVC node additional and removal and as a result, DMP returns I/O errors back to the upper I/O layers.

In another situation the problem may cause DMP to remove all the SANVC DMP devices when "vxdctl enable" is run.

Cause

The problem is caused by a deficiency in the Array Policy Module (APM) in the Veritas Dynamic Multipathing (DMP).   The APM handling the IBM SANVC is named dmpsvc as shown in the vxdmpadm listapm command output.   The SANVC APM module fails to handle the transient errors that occur during the SANVC node addition and removal.

Solaris Platform

- 5.1GA

AIX Platform
- 5.0MP1 RP2
- 5.0MP3
- 5.1GA

Linux Platform
- 5.0MP3
- 5.1GA

HP-UX 11.31 Platform
- 5.1 GA
- The enhancement is not available on the VxVM 5.0 or 5.0.1 versions on the HP-UX 11.31 platforms

Please upgrade to the latest VxVM version to fix the related problems.

Issue/Introduction

Problems can be experienced during IBM SAN Virtual Controller (SANVC/SVC) node addition and removal when running Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) 5.0.
