2015/07/02 06:54:46 VCS WARNING V-16-1-17028 Notifier:cannot close snmp session

Cause

The problem is caused by the Etrack incident listed in the Supplemental Material of this article.   The problem only affects VCS version 6.2 and 7.0.

Resolution

Veritas engineering is working on the fix.   The fix will be provided in the future VCS 6.2 and 7.0 patch releases.

Workaround

Until patch is available, please specify the IP address of the SNMP Console in the SnmpConsoles attribute of the NotifierMngr resource as a workaround.

Issue/Introduction

Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) version 6.2 and 7.0 notifier doesn't send SNMP notification when hostname is specified as the SnmpConsoles attribute.

The notifier process receives notification messages from VCS and delivers those messages to SNMP consoles and SMTP servers.  The notifier process is managed by the NotifierMngr resource.   For example, the following is an example of the NotifierMngr resource.

        NotifierMngr Notifier (
                SnmpConsoles = { snmp-console = Information }
                )

The SNMP Console can be specified using IP address or hostname.   But due to the Etrack incident listed in the Supplemental Material of this article, the notifier process will not send SNMP notification when hostname is specified.
