When assigned to an RVG (Replicated Volume Group), the File System of a volume may appear as RAW or MISSING under certain conditions:
1. The volume is an SRL (Storage Replicator Log). SRL volumes are normally RAW.
2. The volume resides within a secondary RVG. By design, volumes within a secondary RVG have data access disabled and will appear as RAW.
3. In a Storage Foundation HA for Windows (SFW-HA) environment, an RVGPrimary resource may be present. If this resource is offline, any volumes within the corresponding RVG may be set to RAW. They should become available again once the RVGPrimary resource has been started.
Note: The RVGPrimary resource is normally offline unless it is present on the primary site.
4. If the replication mode is Synchronous and a secondary RVG has been disconnected from the primary RVG, then the volumes residing within the primary RVG will remain RAW until the Secondary has been reconnected to the Primary and replication has been resumed. An alternate solution is to temporarily change the Replication to Asynchronous Mode and perform a rescan.
Note: In most cases, data access to the volume can be manually enabled by performing the following steps:
a. From VEA (Veritas Enterprise Administrator), select Replication Network.
b. Expand the RDS (Replicated Data Set).
c. Right-click on the primary RVG
d. Select Enable Data Access.
5. The NTFS boot sector is corrupt. In some cases, the boot sector may be recovered by restoring the backup copy of the boot sector.
Note: The boot sector should not be confused with the master boot record (MBR), which is located at the beginning of the disk.
- The boot sector is located at the first sector of a volume.
- The backup copy of the boot sector is located at the last sector of a volume.
Please contact Microsoft Technical Support for assistance restoring a backup copy of an NTFS boot sector.
6. The File System may be corrupt, or there may be a problem reading the File System.
Note: SFW manages volumes, not File Systems. The File System is still under the control of the operating system. Please contact Microsoft Technical Support for assistance if File System corruption is suspected.
