Cause

Virtual Server names can be scavenged from Domain Name Service (DNS) causing any programs that rely on the record being present in DNS to fail.

In SFW/Infoscale, the Lanman agent can create and delete DNS entries during its online and offline operations. However, it does not actively update the records unless DNSRefreshInterval is configured.

If the record is manually deleted, or scavenged by DNS, the Lanman agent will not fault but it will recreate it on the next online. This will cause the virtual name to be in deleted state until next online attempt for Lanman resource.

Resolution

Configure DNSRefreshInterval to perform resource record (RR) refresh on the DNS server to prevent record scavenging.
