Description
Error Message
ErrorV-106-58644-554 "Cannot complete operation. Connection to remote node disrupted unexpectedly"
Cause
The message indicates that there is a problem with the communication between the Primary and secondary hosts. Possible causes can be
- There is a problem with the network that is interfering with communication between the local host and the remote host.
- If the operation is taking a long time to complete, it may exceed the timeout value of the Volume Replicator Administrative Service (VRAS) connection. When this occurs, the waiting host may forcibly close the connection, resulting in this error message.
Resolution
1. Verify that hosts are able to ping each other and ports 4145 (UDP), 2148 (TCP/UDP),8199 (TCP) or 8989 (TCP) are open and not blocked.
2. Use the vxprint command to verify that the host names or IP addresses of the computers are listed correctly
3. Increase the VRAS heartbeat timeout value from the default value of 30 seconds to a higher value, such as 90 seconds.
To achieve this, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\VxSvc\CurrentVersion\VolumeManager\constants and find the DWORD as AE_TIMEOUT and set the value to 90
4. Run vxassist refresh from an elevated command prompt
4. Attempt a VEA connection to the Secondary host from the local host.
Issue/Introduction
In Veritas Storage Foundation for Windows, when attempting to add a VVR secondary host site via VEA the command will time out.
