Summary
Volume Manager 5.0 introduced a unique identifiers for disks (UDID) which allow source and cloned (copied) disks to be differentiated. If a disk and its clone are presented to Volume Manager, devices will be flagged as udid_mismatch in
vxdisk list .
Three issues have been identified with the
udid_mismatch state which can compromise disk group integrity:
Problem 1 - Abstract "vxdisk updateudid after udid_mismatch could lead to dg config mess up" (Internal ref e936419)
The disk group configuration is not completely updated during the updateudid operation.
At risk: Systems where the commands "
vxdisk updateudid " or "
vxdg ... updateid " are executed.
The issue has been fixed in the following patches:
| OS |
Volume Manager Patch |
| Solaris SPARC |
5.0MP1-RP4 |
| Solaris x64 |
5.0RP1 |
| Linux |
5.0MP1-RP1 |
| Linux |
5.0MP2-RP1 (MP2 does not contain fix) |
| AIX |
5.0MP1-RP3 |
| HPUX 11iv2 |
5.0MP1-RP2 (PHCO_37086, PHKL_37087) |
| HPUX 11iv3 |
5.0-RP3 |
The patch for HPUX is available from HP IT resource centre.
Problem 2 - Abstract "Updateudid cmd on an imported dg disk could render the dg unimportable later" (Internal ref e1150313)
The disk media records are not updated correctly during the "
updateudid " operation.
At risk: Systems where the command "
vxdisk updateudid " will be executed on disks that are part of an imported disk group.
The issue has been fixed in the following patches:
| OS |
Volume Manager Patches |
| Solaris SPARC |
5.0MP1-RP4 |
| Solaris x64 |
5.0RP1 |
| Linux |
5.0MP1-RP1+HOTFIX |
| Linux |
5.0MP2-RP1+HOTFIX |
| AIX |
5.0MP1-RP3 |
| HPUX 11iv2 |
5.0MP1-RP2+HOTFIX |
| HPUX 11iv3 |
5.0-RP3 |
Problem 3 - Abstract "vxdisk 'updateudid' is corrupting diskid. Import of diskgroup fails." (internal ref e1532363)
The disk media records are not updated correctly during the "updateudid" operation.
At risk: Systems where the command "vxdisk updateudid" will be executed on disks that are part of an imported disk group.
The issue has been fixed in the following patches, by removing the ability to run "updateudid" on imported diskgroups:
| OS |

| Solaris SPARC |
5.0MP3RP2 |
| Linux |
5.0MP3RP3 |
| AIX |
