Description

Error Message

V-76-58645-79 The requested object is in active use, operation not allowed

Cause

A volume that is replicated through RDS cannot be deleted directly from the Veritas Enterprise Administrator->Volumes tree until it is removed from Veritas Enterprise Administrator->Replication Network->RDS tree.

Resolution

  1. Login to Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA)
  2. Select Replication Network on the Select Host drop down menu
  3. Select the Primary data volume or the Secondary data volume and right-click to select the Remove Volume option.
  4. The Remove Volume dialog box is displayed. Click Yes to delete the data volume from the Primary and Secondary RVG within the RDS.

NOTE: The above steps will only remove the volume from the RDS but will not delete the volume from the server. The below steps can then be performed to delete the volume from the server:

  1. From VEA, browse to vea://localhost:System/
  2. Right-click on the volume to be deleted and select Delete Volume

NOTE: If the RDS is clustered, the volume deletion will be blocked.

To allow the volume deletion while RDS is clustered, perform the below steps

  1.  Delete the MountV resource in VCS for the volume that is intended to be deleted.
  2.  Reconfigure any resources that are dependent on the deleted MountV resource.
  3.  Freeze all Service Groups (SG) with persistent mode.
  4.  Save and close the VCS configuration.
  5.  From the Active node, run hastop -local -force
  6.  Now, delete the volume from the RDS using Remove Volume option.
  7.  Run hastart on the node to allow VCS to monitor the RDS again.
  8.  From VEA, browse to vea://localhost:System/
  9.  Right-click on the volume to be deleted and select Delete Volume
