Cause

inotify is an inode-based filesystem notification technology. It provides the ability to monitor various events on files in filesystems.

When trying to deport a disk group, or trying to unmount a filesystem, upon which the inotify daemon is running, it will not be possible to unmount the filesystem and therefore. the "Deport DG" for the associated diskgroup will fail until this facility is stopped.

Resolution

The inotify can be configured to stop under Cluster Server control when performing Offline operations for the Service Group

Applications such as Samba can be configured to use the inotify daemon. More information concerning it can be found at http://inotify.aiken.cz/?section=incron&page=download

Issue/Introduction

There are instances when the filesystem cannot be unmounted or the diskgroup fails to deport if the inotify daemon is in "running" state.
