VxVM DCLI vxlist ERROR V-50-49971-377 timeout

GUI

Cause

defect; triggered when Volume Manager sees disks in an "error" status (typically due to OS formatting or hardware issues)

Resolution

The issue is triggered when Volume Manager sees disks in an error status
(typically due to an OS formatting or hardware issue)

This can be seen by running a pstack on the DCLI daemon (vxdclid).

This is fixed in VOM 6.1 HF 6.

Issue/Introduction

The command vxlist is typically used for Veritas Operations Manager (VOM) discovery.  There are times when this command may be run at the command line to inspect it's output and/or when troubleshooting VOM.  In this case, vxlist hung and eventually displays the timeout message below.  This was due to the DCLI server being hung because Volume Manager was seeing disks in an error state (typically due to OS formatting or hardware issues) .

Another symptom is that VOM may  display a fault "VCS Real time discovery failed on host"
