Need to be able to monitor VCS service groups including Exchange and SQL instances.

Resolution

Microsoft components for SCOM configuration:

1. Add required SQL and/or Exchange Management Packs (MP)

For SQL 2000, select the following:
- Microsoft.SQLServer.2000.Discovery.mp
- Microsoft.SQLServer.2000.Monitoring.mp
- Microsoft.SQLServer.Library.mp

For SQL 2005, select the following:
- Microsoft.SQLServer.2005.Discovery.mp
- Microsoft.SQLServer.2005.Monitoring.mp
- Microsoft.SQLServer.Library.mp

For Exchange 2003, select the following:
- Microsoft.Exchange.Server.2003.Discovery.mp
- Microsoft.Exchange.Server.2003.Monitoring.mp
- Microsoft.Exchange.Server.Library.mp

For Exchange 2007, select the following:
- Microsoft.Exchange.2007.mp
- Microsoft.Exchange.2007.Reporting.mp

2. Run the Microsoft Exchange Server Management Pack Configuration Wizard
- Applies to Exchange 2003 only.

  • Install the VCSOpsMgrIntegration service.

  • Import the VCS Library Management Pack (Veritas.VCS.Library.mp)

  • Ensure that the Lanman resource is online on the cluster node. Also, ensure that the Lanman agent attributes, ADUpdateRequired and DNSUpdateRequired are set to True. If they are not,  set them to True,  take the Lanman resource offline and then bring it online.
     
  • Install Operations Manager 2007 Agent

  • Configure agent-managed computers as proxy.

Configure agent-less managed computer object for SQL and/or Exchange:

  • In the Operations Console, click Administration.
  • 2. At the bottom of the navigation pane, click Discovery Wizard....
  • 3. On the Introduction panel, click next.
  • 4. On the Auto or Advanced? panel, select Advanced discovery, complete the following and then click next:

In the Computer & Device Types list, select Servers & Clients.
In the Management Server list, click to select the computer that you want to use to discover the computers.
Uncheck the Verify discovered computers can be contacted check box.

  • On the Discovery Method panel, do the following and then click next:

In the Browse for, or type-in computer names box, type the SQL or Exchange virtual server names (This is the Lanman name in VCS), separated by semi-colon, comma, or a new line, and click next.

  • On the Administrator Account panel, specify a user account with Administrative rights on the virtual computer and then click Discover to begin the discovery.
  • On the Select Objects to Manage panel, do the following and then click next:

Select the virtual server name.
From the Management Mode drop-down list, select Agentless.
In the Proxy Agent field, select the cluster node on which the Lanman resource is online and click next.

  • On the Summary panel, click Finish.
