Error Message

Jul 8 22:46:55 vxvm:vxconfigd: [ID 702911 daemon.error] V-5-1-1589 enable failed: License has expired or is not available for operation

Cause

ELM licenses were only used prior to version 3.5. There was a requirement in either 4.0 or 4.1 to upgrade to the SIG type of license. The ELM license is numeric while the SIG license is alphanumeric.  ELM licenses had a finite expiration date and were good for years but they DID expire. Also, both systems had expired demo licenses. Suspect that the ELM licenses finally expired causing the license error messages.

Resolution

Recommendation is to:

1. Ensure that the systems have a permanent SIG type license. Example: 8EZH-3PPR-YD3N-NI6P-PZ4N-P33P-836P-PP

2. With the above license in place, the following is optional:

a. Remove the ELM licenses in /etc/vx/elm.

b. Remove any old expired demo licenses in /etc/vx/licenses/lic. The file names can be reconciled from the vxlicrep output by adding the .vxlic extension.
