Description

Error Message

There is no error - other than the asldebug /scsi inquiry shows that the device is "skipped" by the ASL - as shown below

Device                                 : /dev/sda
    Vendor Identification                  : HITACHI
    Product Identification                 : OPEN-V-CM
    Revision                               : 6008
    Serial Number                          : 50 08F6FFE32
    libvxhds9980.so:claim_device()         : SKIPPED

Cause

This is expected behavior.  The devices were Hitachi "command device" .  These devices are, by design,  "hidden" and excluded by the ASL ( ie they are SKIPPED  ). The Hitachi Command Control Interface (CCI) uses the special "command devices" for disk-based communication between servers.

Resolution

Hitachi "command devices" will not be visible to VxVM and will be skipped by ASL per design requirements.

A HITACHI command device can be identified by the PID ( Product Id) which will have "-CM" appended as illustrated below :

Product Identification                 : OPEN-V-CM

Applies To

VxVM + Hitachi array  + linux
