VxVM vxdg ERROR V-5-1-585 Disk group DG_AM_SA_DBA_TST2_async: cannot create: Operation must be executed on master

Cause

Syntax error. 

 

This error occurred as the -s switch was used (this system is standalone and not part of a cluster).  The -s switch is to be used when creating a shared diskgroup that will be imported simultaneously on multiple nodes of a volume sharing cluster like Symantec's Cluster File System  (CFS) or Storage Foundation for RAC (Oracle).

Resolution

Use the vxdg init command on a standalone system without -s .


Applies To

This was found on a Linux platform running Storage Foundation version 5.1 but is a generic error that may be encountered on any supported Operating System (OS) and version of Storage Foundation (Volume Manager).
