Error Message

Nov 29 10:27:17 system1 amf: [ID 677056 kern.notice] AMF WARNING V-292-1-44 AMF can no longer monitor MNTOFF events. Notifying reapers.

Cause

The warning messages encountered in the VCS and observed within the operating system log files are a result of the Operating System interface returning an error. When a resource is under control of the AMF driver, the AMF driver calls an Operating System (OS) Application Programming Interface (API), for example pn_get() on Solaris platform to identify the state of the resource. Depending upon the return value of the OS API, VCS AMF driver will report the status. However, if this API call fails or provides and ambiguous return code, then VCS will notify the resource and VCS will report such Warning messages of "Notifying reapers".

Resolution

These messages do not break any functionality and are harmless to the system or VCS monitoring the resources. In Storage Foundation 6.0.1, our code has been improved to handle the Operating System API calls and the issue with the similar messages have not been encountered on systems running on top of SF 6.0.1.

Applies To

Veritas Cluster Server 5.1 or later with the agetns that are configured to monitor using IMF.

Issue/Introduction

Under certain situations in a Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) environment, the system log may report 'warning' messages from the VCS Asynchronous Monitoring Framework (AMF) kernel driver for any type of resource being monitored with the VCS Intellent Monitoring Framework (IMF). The messages may be ad hoc and without a pattern and may appear for any type of resource irrespective of the resource 'type' as long as the resource is being monitored using IMF.

The Warning message shown in the error column is related to a resource of type Mount as an example, but there may be other resources which may report similar warning messages.
