When using the NetworkHosts attribute with the MultiNICA agent, the monitor script will periodically ping the IP address(es) configured as the NetworkHosts attribute to check Network connectivity. NIC resource is considered healthy if there is a ping response from at least one of NetworkHosts IP address(es). If this attribute is unspecified or all the specified IP address are not reachable, then the monitor routine will ping the broadcast address and check for an increase in packet counts. If there is a packet count increase, the NIC is considered to be healthy, and the monitor returns "ONLINE". If there is no packet count increase, then the NIC is considered to be faulty, and the monitor returns "OFFLINE".
If there is a 2nd interface configured in MultiNICA resource configuration, the monitor will run the same test on that interface and if there is no broadcast ping response from there, then the resource will be declared as faulted.
Note: An IP address should be specified as NetworkHost instead of a hostname to prevent the monitor from timing out due to DNS resolution. Please see the bundled agents guide for further information on the MultiNICA agent.Applies To
