vxdisk command with options thin,fssize may cause system hang or panic in SF 6.0 and above

Error Message

There are no error messages reported. The system may abruptly panic or hang.

Cause

In some cases, vxdisk -o thin,fssize list command might get invalid I/O. Due to a known issue, this error is incorrectly processed, which causes kernel memory corruption. This results in either system panic or hang.

Resolution

On Solaris platform, the problem is fixed in Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) 6.0.3 Hotfix 3 and above. Please contact Veritas support to obtain this.

Until the VxVM hotfix can be installed, as a workaround, disable any scripts that use -o thin,fssize list option of vxdisk command.

 

Applies To

Systems running storage foundation, version 6.0 and above, with thin provisioned LUNs

This issue does not apply to previous versions of SF.
