Error code for SFW 6.0
Mode: Fresh install
Status: Failed
Veritas Storage Foundation 6.0 for Windows
The installation cannot proceed.
The cleanup tasks for previous un-installation are pending.
Please reboot the system and then run the installation wizard again.
In SFW / SFW-HA 6.x a post cleanup service called "CleanupService" is run after the successful uninstall and during the required reboot.
This service will only be visible once the uninstall is completed and can be seen in the Services Control Panel (start > run > services.msc) as shown in Figure 1 below.
Figure 1
The process that runs this service is located a %programdata%\Veritas\VM and is called CleanupService.exe (see Figure 2)
Figure 2
The cleanup service is installed at the end of the uninstall process (prior to the required reboot). The process initiates a vxio driver cleanup script to remove the driver during the reboot. Following the reboot, the service is automatically removed from the system and should no longer appear in the Services Control Panel.
If the cleanup service is not properly removed and is still present on the system (following uninstall/reboot), the reinstall of SFW/SFW-HA will fail.
1. Open the Services Control Panel (start > run > services.msc) to check the status of the "CleanupService".
a. If the service is visible, but not running, start the service. This will launch the CleanupService process (which can be seen in Task Manager). This process should run quickly, then disappear from Task Manager.
b. If the service is already running, open explorer and browse to %ProgramData%\Veritas\VM and execute the vxiocleanup.bat. If this runs successfully, all files in this folder should disappear except for cleanvxio.txt and vxiocleanup.bat.
2. Reboot the server
3. Following the reboot, check Services Control Panel to confirm the CleanupService no longer shows. If it does not show, attempt the product install again which should now be successful. The the service still shows, proceed to the Troubleshooting section below.
Troubleshooting:
If the CleanupService still shows in the Services Control Panel and/or the installation still fails with the same error, follow the steps provided below:
1. Open regedit (start > run > regedit)
2. Browse to the following location to determine if the key exists: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CleanupService and check if the registry key exists. If it does exist, delete the CleanupService key.
3. Check the 2 additional registry locations for the CleanupService key, and if it exists, delete them as well:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\services\CleanupService
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\services\CleanupService
4. Follow the steps outlined in the following article do perform the removal of vxio (Master article for reinstalling the VXIO driver)
Note: Only perform Steps 1-3 in the vxio removal article. Do NOT perform the Install vxio driver as that will be performed by the actual product installation once the removal is successful
5. After the successful removal of vxio (and the required reboots), run the product install again which should now be successful.
6. If issues persist after following the steps above, please contact Veritas Technical Support for further assistance.
