V-16-10051-9018: Volume not present

Resolution

An SFW/HA MountV resource has three required attributes; Mount Path, Volume Name, and Volume Manager Disk Group (VMDg) Resource Name. Below is a brief description of these required attributes:

  • Mount Path: The drive letter or path to an empty NTFS folder that will be assigned to the volume being mounted.
  • Volume Name: The name of the volume to be mounted. Use the VMGetDrive utility to retrieve the volume name.
  • VMDG Resource Name: The name of the VMDg resource on which the MountV resource depends.

When creating the MountV resource and entering the information for the required attributes listed above, verify that the volume exists and the name is typed correctly.

To properly enter the name of the volume, use the name that is displayed in the Volume name section of the VERITAS Enterprise Administrator (VEA), and not the name that is displayed in the Name section (figure 1). The name that is displayed in the Name section is the display name, or more commonly known as the volume label. Another important detail while entering the Volume Name attribute is to make sure that name matches exactly as SFW/HA is case-sensitive.

In an example below, the volume name is actually "volume1" and not "fileshare_vol" (figure 1).

Figure 1

To ensure the MountV required attribute "Volume Name" is entered correctly, the name should be retrieved using the VMGetDrive utility. For more information about the VMGetDrive utility, please refer to the VERITAS Cluster Server 5.0 Administrator's Guide in the Related Documents section below.

Once the correct name of the volume is entered in the Volume Name attribute of the MountV resource, the resource should no longer fault and the MountV resource should successfully online the volume.
