Cause

The EMC Symmetrix SYMAPI database is not up-to-date and is incorrect.

The VCS SRDF agent relies the SYMAPI output. When SYMAPI database incorrect, the command vxdisk rm may try to remove non-cloned devices. This fails with error code [4096] - "Device is in use."

Resolution

  • Engage the storage vendor to verify that the SYMAPI database is up-to-date.
  • Refresh on DR side using EMC the SYMCLI command if needed:
    # symcfg discover
  • Consult with the storage vendor to determine if any permanent fix exists.

Issue/Introduction

To complete the EMC SRDF (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility) failover activity, VCS will use the online script to rescan the replicated devices and then import the corresponding disk group, automatically.

Occasionally, a replicated (or cloned) disk group fails to be imported on the DR (Disaster Recovery) side. The error "VCS WARNING V-16-20017-88 SRDF" warning message is reported by VCS.
