Cause
Third party multi-pathing solutions, MPGroups, or having Veritas DMP (Dynamic Multi-Pathing) co-existing with third party multi-pathing solutions, have not been tested. Such configurations may encounter unexpected problems.
Resolution
We recommend using Veritas DMP in an I/O, or guest, domain when running a Storage Foundation stack in a guest domain.
From an implementation perspective of Storage Foundation in an LDOM (Logical Domain) environment, the virtualization guides show two ways by which the Storage Foundation stack can be configured:
- Guest-based Storage Foundation stack: All the paths to the devices are presented from the I/O domain to the guest, and run the full Storage foundation stack in the guest domain. Veritas DMP would manage the multi-pathing in guest domain.
- Split Storage Foundation stack: We support DMP in the I/O domains, and the full Storage Foundation stack in the guests, to perform I/O domain failover. Veritas DMP would manage disk paths, both in the I/O and guest domain.
Note: If you have licensed Storage Foundation for the host, you are entitled to use DMP in the I/O domains as well. This works better in a DMP-on-DMP configuration (DMP in both the I/O and guest) than third party multi-pathing in an I/O domain and DMP in a guest domain.
Issue/Introduction
Third party multipathing solutions are not supported for use in I/O and guest domains.
