Description
Symptoms
- HTC resource is in an ONLINE PENDING state
- pairdisplay.exe process can be seen in the Windows Task Manager, with high CPU usage
Cause
Each user must be authenticated when running commands from command line for the first time. The HTC agent runs as the LocalSystem account, so the pairdisplay command stops responding, or "hangs," on a user name input prompt, and does not allow the agent to continue.
Resolution
Complete these steps on each node:
- Open a command prompt window, as the LocalSystem account. We recommend using psexec.exe, from Sysinternals, with the syntax psexec -i -s cmd.exe.
- Run the pairdisplay command. Provide the authentication details of the storage console. This should be provided by the storage administrator.
- Ensure the pairdisplay command provides the appropriate output, In particular, ensure it does not return “access denied” or “authentication failed.
- Try to bring the HTC resource online, again. The agent should now be able to execute all HORCM commands, as required.
Issue/Introduction
When the
security enabled attribute is set to
true on a Hitachi storage array, then the HTC cluster agent may fail to bring the HTC resource online. This was observed on servers using IPCMD method to communicate with the array rather than using GateKeeper devices.
