Description
The JRE version that VEA (Veritas Enterprise Administrator) uses becomes outdated and needs to be updated to address issues in either JRE or VEA.
Resolution
When using Storage Foundation 6.x, the VEA can be used in two types of installations where the JRE can be upgraded.
Installing from a VEA Server: (the JRE is deployed in %vmpath%\..\Veritas Object Bus\jre folder):
- Take a backup of %vmpath%\..\Veritas Object Bus\jre folder.
- Download the latest x86 jre from the Intenet and extract it.
- Replace the %vmpath%\..\Veritas Object Bus\jre content with the latest downloaded JRE. Here, the fonts folder, in the existing JRE, is locked by system. It will prompt for the folder in use, and then skip the fonts files. These are just for fonts and don’t have any security-related impact.
- Now, the server is updated with the latest JRE. A system reboot is not required.
Client-only installation: (the JRE is deployed by vrtsobgui.msi at %SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\ VERITAS\VERITAS Object Bus\jre):
- Take a backup of %SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\ VERITAS\VERITAS Object Bus\jre.
- Follow the same, as above.
- Replace the %SystemDrive%\Program Files (x86)\ VERITAS\VERITAS Object Bus\jre content with latest downloaded JRE. The same fonts folder lock issue that is described in the VEA Server procedure will appear here. Skip it, as mentioned earlier.
- Now it is updated with the latest JRE. A system reboot is not required.
NOTE: From Infoscale 7.x onward, VEA uses Amazon Corretto OpenJDK. The steps to upgrade the JDK components can be found at How to update the Amazon Corretto JDK Components included with InfoScale for Windows
