Cause
This was due to the "asmcmd showclustermode" command getting executed with root user permissions instead of Oracle user permissions.
Resolution
The agent has been updated to execute the "asmcmd showclustermode" command with Oracle user permissions.
This fix is present in hotfixes for VCS 7.2 and 7.3.1 for Aix and Solaris 11.3. Please reach out to Veritas Technical Support in the event that a hotfix is required.
The fix is also included in VCS 7.4.

Issue/Introduction
ASMDG monitor constantly reporting 'Connected to an idle instance' for ASMDG resources on Solaris 11.3 and Aix clusters running VCS 7.2 and VCS 7.3.1. These messages were seen with Oracle 11.2.0.4 and Oracle 12.1.0.2 databases.
The ASMSG resources were configured correctly and the ASMDG agent was functioning correctly, but the logs were getting flooded with these messages.
