Description

The default values for Global Atomic Broadcast (GAB) timeout should suit almost all Veritas Cluster environments. In some instances it may become necessary to modify the default values as explained by Event ID: 18 is reported by VCS GAB in the Windows Event Viewer.

The below steps can be followed to modify GAB timeout values on all of the cluster nodes for the impacted cluster.

1) Open Control Panel --> System and Security -> System

2) Click on Change settings under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings

3) On the System Properties window, select the Advanced tab

4) On the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button

5) On the Environment Variables window, locate System Variables and select New as shown below

6) On the New System Variable window, enter VCS_GAB_TIMEOUT for the Variable Name.

7) For the Variable Value, enter a number that is higher than the default of 30000 (30 seconds), then click OK.

8) On the Environment Variables window, click OK.

9) On the System Properties window, click OK.

10) Reboot the cluster node.

NOTE: This VCS_GAB_TIMEOUT value may take some experimentation as it is entirely dependent upon the system load.
