For Veritas Infoscale, there are instances wherein a rename of the Dynamic Diskgroup (DG) configured in a Microsoft Failover Cluster (FoC) is needed while the FoC is up and running.
In an ideal scenario, a DG can be renamed by performing the following steps:
1) Open Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA).
2) Browse to the DG and right click to select the option Rename Dynamic Disk Group.
This would re-import the DG with the new name.
However, this is not possible when the DG is configured as a Volume Manager Diskgroup (VMDg) resource with FoC.
The steps below can be performed to change the VMDg name with screen shots from a Veritas lab environment.
1) From the Roles list, select the Stop Role option for the Role that includes the VMDg resource or offline only the VMDg resource and its dependencies.

2) Offline the DG under Storage > Disks.

3) On the Active Cluster node, browse to VEA | Disk Groups | DG name | Import Dynamic Disk Group.. | Cluster Disk group.
4) Enter the new name in the DG name field and click OK.

5) Next in the Failover Cluster Manager, go to Storage| Disks | VMDg resource | Properties | Properties.

6) Update the DiskGroupName field in the Properties tab to match the new DG name given in VEA from step #3.

7) Online the VMDg resource followed by doing Start Role for the role that was stopped in Step #1.
NOTE: Since the above steps involve the Start/Stop Role operation, it is highly recommended to perform the activity in a downtime window.
