Description

Error Message

An error similar to the following was observed in the /var/adm/vx/dmpevents.log file for each of the affected paths around the time that the 'vxdisk resize' command was run:

Disabled Path hdisk1634(17/1636) belonging to Dmpnode san_vc0_002986(34/89) due to open failure (type=normal, errno=0x16)

Cause

The issue was due to stale FC_IDs associated with the hdisk entries in the AIX ODM layer which had been introduced during an earlier reboot of the SVC storage.

Resolution

The only way to fix the staleness was to reboot the system or reconfigure the hdisks using commands such as 'rmdev -dl hdiskN' followed by 'cfgmgr'.

It is also possible that enabling persistent PIDs in the SAN environment might help to avoid such staleness.

Issue/Introduction

Multiple dmp paths reported in disabled state or missing following a lun resize activity on IBM SVC storage belonging to InfoScale 7.4.1/Aix 7.2 systems. The lun was successfully resized at the SAN and Operating System layers. The 'vxdisk resize' command was successful and reported the correct size and the subsequent growth of the volume/filesystem using 'vxresize' was also successful.
