After applying Volume Manager (VxVM) Hot Fix 7.1.0.4203 on Solaris 10, disks fail to initialise

Error Message

An attempt to initialise a Solaris Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) disk on Solaris 10 fails with:

# /opt/VRTS/bin/vxdisksetup -i emc_clariion0_113

VxVM vxdisk ERROR V-5-1-5433 Device emc_clariion0_113: init failed:
Disk Ioctl failed

 

Cause

On Solaris 10, Veritas Dynamic Multipathing (DMP) can encounter issues when incorrectly referring to the efi_nparts value from the disk concerned.

 

Resolution

There are no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in earlier versions of the software at the present time.  However, the issue has been addressed in the revision of the product specified at the end of this article. 
 
Please contact your Veritas Sales representative or the Veritas Sales group for upgrade information including upgrade eligibility to the release containing the resolution for this issue.

 

Removing the hot fix will resolve the issue.
Alternatively, upgrading to Solaris 11 and Infoscale 7.4.2 also resolves the issue.
