Description

Error Message

VCS ERROR V-16-10-97

Could not connect to the server using default credentials.

Cause

This issue is only seen when

  1. The server attempting the remote connection to the Cluster is a standalone server (only has Veritas Java Console installed or the server is not a part of the Cluster to which the connection is made.)
  2. The cluster to which the connection is attempted is configured for Single Sign-On (SSO)
  3. The cluster node to which the connection via the Veritas Java Console is attempted has multiple IP associated with multiple network interfaces.

When the Veritas Java console runs from the standalone server (which is outside the cluster), it tries to get the Broker IP for communication with the cluster. If the Cluster node has multiple IP configured across multiple network interfaces, the Veritas Java console may, at times, pick up the incorrect IP causing the broker communication to fail. Thereby, causing the remote login to report an error.

Resolution

There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the current or previous versions of the software at the present time. While this issue may be resolved in a future major revision of the software at a later time, it is not currently scheduled for any release.  If you feel this issue has a direct business impact for you and your continued use of the product, please contact your Veritas Sales representative or the Veritas Sales group to discuss these concerns.

As a workaround, the below steps can be done:

1) Attempt to login to the cluster and wait for the error to be reported.

2) Once the error is reported, it will provide a new dialog box requesting User name, Password and Domain as seen below

3) Click on Advanced to be presented with the dialog box below

4) Verify if the Broker IP is listing the Public IP of the intended cluster node.

5) If it is incorrect, then right click on the Login... button again from the Veritas Java Console.

NOTE: This step is needed to avoid any cached entries for Broker IP that may exist in the Veritas Java Console.

6) The same dialog box as shown in Step #3 will pop-up again. This time, enter the appropriate details:

User name: This will be the user name which is used to login to the VCS Cluster node (intended for remote connection)

NOTE: Do not enter the username as domain\username. Only the username should suffice.

Password: Password for the user entered in User name field.

Domain: The entire FQDN or shortname for the domain in which the user is located.

Broker : Update the incorrect IP address with the host IP or the Cluster IP address.

Domain Type: This will be set to nt .

7) Hit the OK button and the remote login should now be successful.

8) Repeat the same steps, every time the session in Veritas Java Console gets logged out.

Issue/Introduction

For a Veritas Cluster Server on the Windows platform, when attempting to connect to a clustered node from a Standalone server using the Java Console, the remote login attempt from the Standalone server fails with an error.
