Description

For Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), when using Arctera Infoscale, the system has vxencryptd and vxcloud background processes running, which are not required for the site as it does not utilize volume encryption or cloud storage. In a few environments, the utilization of resources are seen high for these processes. If these processes are not in use they can be safely disabled to avoid such issues.

The vxencryptd and vxcloud processes are part of the Veritas Volume Manager (vxvm) ecosystem:

  • vxencryptd: Handles volume encryption processes.
  • vxcloud: Manages cloud-related storage functionalities.

To safely stop and disable the vxvm-vxcloud and vxvm-encrypt services, follow these steps:

1) Check the current status of services:

#systemctl status vxvm-vxcloud
#systemctl status vxvm-encrypt

Note: Ensure the site has confirmed that these services are not required for any current or future functionality before disabling them.

2) Stop services:

#systemctl stop vxvm-vxcloud
#systemctl stop vxvm-encrypt

3) Disable services from starting at boot:

#systemctl disable vxvm-vxcloud
#systemctl disable vxvm-encrypt

4) Mask vxvm-encrypt to prevent manual restart:

#systemctl mask vxvm-encrypt
