Description

Summary of Changes

The transition involves the retirement of all legacy product variants, add-on services, and permanent license keys in favor of a single universal license and product allocation:

  • Unlimited Entitlement: Customers will receive unlimited core counts and cross-platform support for Linux, Windows, UNIX, and OpenShift under a single SKU.
  • Subscription-Only Model: All future patches, updates  and major releases (beginning with version 7.4.2 onward) will be exclusively available to customers who install the universal license key and those customers will be converted to subscription at the time of renewal (if they have not already done so).
  • Universal License Key: A single term-based license file will now cover all variants and versions, simplifying installation and renewals.
  • Legacy Access: For version 7.4.1 and older,  no changes are being made to the licensing process, however you can still benefit from unlimited deployments.

Deprecated Legacy SKUs and Metrics

The following table outlines the legacy components that will be retired and consolidated into a single unlimited Enterprise SKU and single universal term-based license:

Deprecated Scenarios & Options

The following license components and usage considerations will no longer apply:

  • License cross-grades, upgrades and downgrades
  • Cold DR deployments
  • Cloud Instance Bands
  • Separate extended and sustaining support add-ons

Subscription Terms & Extended Support

InfoScale supports a standard subscription-based licensing framework. This model enables organizations to unlimied product usage for a defined duration (typically 36, 48, or 60 months), with comprehensive maintenance and major version upgrade entitlements integrated into the subscription cost. Throughout the active term, customers maintain the right to deploy the software, access critical security patches and technical support, and benefit from all ownership-level entitlements. Upon the conclusion of the term, a subscription renewal is required to ensure continued operational access and product functionality.  Included with your subscription is a 3-phase support model, Primary, Extended and Sustaining.  Depending on the GA date of version you have deployed, certain support restrictions may apply.  To learn more about the InfoScale support lifecycle policy,  please refer to following guide: InfoScale Product Life Cycle Policy

Transitional Scenarios & Exceptions

Existing customers with an active subscription contract will be transitioned to the unlimited entitlement at the time of renewal and can convert to the universal license format at any time (dependent on product version) unless otherwise defined in your subscription contract.  For customers with a heterogeneous environment,  your active inventory will continue to be seen via your current entitlements in the new download portal.  Legacy license access will still be available,  however, you will need to formally request the license files/keys from the customer service team.  For those customers who have not yet transitioned to subscription, you will be able to gain access to all future versions, releases, security patches and platform updates through the maintenance term if you convert to the universal license format.

Installation and Configuration (3rd Party Integration)

Customers will continue to have the option of deploying the traditional variants of InfoScale.  The license and entitlement changes do not extend to the underlying platform or use case options. For example,  InfoScale Storage integration with 3rd-Party clusterware options such Microsoft Failover Cluster and InfoScale Availability integration with Native LVM and SAP HANA HSR will continue to be supported.  Please refer to the documentation of each variant for the latest supported software and deployment scenarios.

License Expiration & Enforcement

The new licensing policy introduces active enforcement tied to the term-based Universal License Key for InfoScale versions 7.4.2 and newer. This enforcement model operates through three distinct license lifecycle phases:

  • Warning Period (–90 Days): Starting 90 days prior to the subscription expiry date, log messages will alert users to the impending expiration. Product functionality remains unaffected.
  • Grace Period (0–60 Days): Upon reaching the subscription end-date, the product enters a 60-day grace period to allow for renewal. Full product functionality continues during this time.
  • Enforced Mode (61+ Days): If your subscription is not renewed, InfoScale will deactivate both the HA and Storage functions.  I/O operations for existing workloads will be blocked.
    • Resources managed by Cluster Server (VCS) will undergo a graceful shutdown.
    • Volume Manager (VxVM) will stop the vxconfigd daemon, disabling access to VxFS file systems for non-VCS managed resources.

For more information on this process, please refer to the InfoScale License Enforcement Guide (available with the new patches currently in the download portal) and Licensing FAQ.

Usage Reporting and Central Activation

The InfoScale License Management Service (LMS) simplifies the central activation of new licenses by establishing a single point of control and automating deployment across your environment. LMS streamlines the process through the following key functions:

  • Single Point of Activation: The LMS serves as the centralized hub and single source for activating new license deployments.
  • Automated Key Distribution: The process involves a one-time upload of the InfoScale license key to the LMS by the user. The LMS then automatically propagates the license key to each individual InfoScale host.
  • Centralized Oversight: It integrates reporting, providing a centralized mechanism for overseeing license deployment and accountability across all InfoScale assets in your data center.
  • Real-time Management: It is designed to offer real-time, self-service license and entitlement management.
  • License Synchronization: The license service within the cluster, when managed by Veritas Cluster Server (VCS), synchronizes the Blob key with the latest expiration date across all cluster nodes, checking and syncing every 24 hours (currently available on Linux).

To learn more about the InfoScale LMS, please refer to the following documentation on how to deploy and configure the solution.

Adoption and Implementation

To adopt the new model, existing customers must download the new term-based license file from the InfoScale licensing and entitlement portal. For environments on versions 7.4.2 through 9.0, customers must also install the corresponding cumulative update in order to enable this new license framework. For versions which GA after May 11th, 2026 the licensing component updates will be included. Environments running version 7.4.1 or older will remain on their legacy license format, but will no longer receive new patches or updates.

Issue/Introduction

Effective May 11, 2026, InfoScale is transitioning from an a-la-carte licensing model to an unlimited subscription-only Enterprise entitlement. This strategic shift aims to radically simplify the ordering process, eliminate core-count management, and allow customers to focus on business outcomes rather than licensing tiers.
